Not Jack Sparrow

Huge Huge Huge Huge

A few months ago I had the opportunity to capture the performance of the Portuguese band A Jigsaw. I instantly liked their music, which taps into American folklore as well as Portuguese culture. Instruments that are not common in the current musical landscape, played skillfully and laden with emotion...

Names that come to mind while listening are Cale, Cohen, Goothrie and Waits.

February 9th, the band presented some songs of their latest album ´Drunken Sailors & Happy Pirates´ to the press and I was gladly invited to point my lenses once again. As usual the band played in a small and cozy place. Talking to João Rui, who takes care of vocals, guitar and bluesharp, reveiled that they like it that way. They like their audiences seated, so people can really feel the music.

For this submission I decided to focus on some of their instruments.

Albums so far:

"From Underskin" 2004

"Letters From The Boatman" 2007

"Like The Wolf" 2009

"Like The Wolf - uncut" 2010

"Drunken Sailors & Happy Pirates" 2011

Their official page can be found on Myspace.
