White Pita Pizza {Recipe}

May 17, 2012 • 0 comments • 1762 views

What’s your favorite part of eating pizza?  In our house it is when we make our extra-extra cheese pizza. The moment when you take a bite, the cheese just pulls apart into a stringy gooey mess…Yum!

Preparing pizza at home is such a healthier option than ordering it from the local restaurant chains. There are so many different recipes out there to try, that it is nearly impossible to cook them all.

Today’s meatless recipe is a White Pita Pizza – Instead of your ordinary pizza dough crust, we are using pita bread instead. By using pita bread, this recipe is perfect for entertaining guests, recipe has a fast prep time, it's great for kids and overall a healthier version of pizza.  That speaks volumes!

White Pita Pizza Recipe

2 whole wheat pitas - slit horizontally into 2 halves each

1 cup ricotta cheese

3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

1-2 cloves fresh minced garlic

4 tbsp pesto*

Preheat the oven to 425°F. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.

Place the pita halves on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 4 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool for 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, combine the ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, and garlic in a bowl. Spread 1/4 over each pita. Spread 1 tablespoon of the pesto over the cheese on each pita.

Bake for 6 to 7 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

To Serve: Each white pita pizza can be served along with a side salad, or grilled veggies.

*for the pesto: you can certainly use your favorite brand of pesto from the supermarket, or if you have the time, make a fresh batch of pesto instead.

Enjoy y Buen Provecho Siempre!
