Art imitates life on top of life

Huge

Alexa Meade is an installation artist based in Washington DC.   Her reverse trompe l’oeil series uses acrylic body paints to submerge real people in stylized paintings.

I paint representational portraits directly on top of the people I am representing.   The models are transformed into embodiments of the artist's interpretation of their essence.  When captured on film, the living, breathing people underneath the paint disappear, overshadowed by the masks of themselves.

These are just a small sample of her work.  To see more, visit her site at: http://www.alexameade.com/

This is genius. So meta. It not only works conceptually, but visually it's really shocking and unsettling.

Striking work.

I love this effect. I wonder if you could use a projector and video camera to manipulate captured video of a scene and then project it back onto the scene itself. Sort of like this, only it would be interactive. Hmm.......
