This steel sculpture was inspired by Barbara Morgan's photograph of Martha Graham's "Letter to the World". I was moved by this photograph many years ago when I first viewed it. I am drawn to its moment of subtle yet dramatic movement.

To capture the drama of the photograph in this steel sculpture, I combined the idea of a bird of prey with that of a dancer making the skirt/wings with copper producing the dramatic rich blue patina. The piece appears to be eternally in motion depending upon the angle and movement of the viewer.
