Inside Out
I went to the Brooklyn Navy Yard Hospital and the surrounding property with some of my friends to explore the run-down buildings. The buildings are off-limits, so we had to sneak our way in and break down some plywood doors. The hospital itself was very dark without flashlights, and as we traveled up the stairs, the rooms were brightened with sunlight. Molly, who is pictured here, heard a sound outside and went to take a look. There were some Navy Yard officials on the property investigating something (probably a call about trespassers), and we had to run up to a small house in the attic to avoid getting caught. I submitted this to the "Last Place" because this was the last photo taken on the last urban exploration I had done (though that does not mean more explorations will not take place in the future).
The only challenge I faced while taking this photograph was the fact that I had to rush to accomplish what I wanted in such a low-light situation. I purposely did not bring my flash so we didn't get caught in dark rooms, so I had to lean against a wall, hold my breath, and take a few shots on burst until I got the perfect one.
For this photo, I was using a Canon 5D with a Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 lens.
