Okay not on the topic of tech, but I like to travel quite a bit too. Really makes me want to pack up and just walk the land like Caine in Kung Fu

I'm glad this author shared these thoughts on how the rest of the world works and thinks of Americans. Social media can hopefully spread these ideas around to people who don't have the opportunity to re-assess these preconceptions themselves.

Road trip! I'm with Jamie.

A friend of mine was able to take his family on a nine-month tour of the world, where they lived in cities as diverse as Berlin, Johannesburg, Kolkata, Bangkok, Osaka and Auckland. He's still in the process of distilling his impressions down into coherent form, but I get the sense that he's reached the same conclusions as Arndt. How could you not?

When I played basketball, I traveled/lived all over the world. I was younger then and loved it but probably did not have an appreciation for what I was actually doing. The world is definitely a lot different beyond USA borders. Like the author said, one commonality is people all want to provide for their families but the difference is the pressure we put on ourselves here in the USA to do so.

The point I resonate with the most is people MUST Travel. You really see how small American is when you travel outside our borders and experience people living differently, under a different set of rules and traditions.

Well said, Mo. I have always felt that the Sarah Palins of the world really should be made to travel the world. First amendment, cool, they can say whatever they like, but they should do it on the basis of seeing other places, experiencing people differently and understanding that everybody, everywhere is just trying to keep it together as best they can.
